Legislative Judicial Relations

Legislative Judicial Relations

With the election over in Nebraska, the Judicial Branch is again reaching out to new and returning senators to arrange visits with local judges and chief probation officers. Legislative term limits make it even more essential to educate senators on the Judicial Branch’s role and importance.

The Branch has designed a three-part program for New Senator Orientation:

  • The ‘Trial Court Legislative Judicial Relations Program’ where the new senator’s local judge invites them to spend the day observing court and court offices.
  • Individual in-office visits with new senators from the Chief Justice, State Court Administrator, and State Probation Administrator.
  • A new orientation group presentation with the Supreme Court (to be held December 2, 2020, in the State Capitol).

Five New State Senators:

  • John Cavanaugh, Omaha
  • Terrell McKinney, Omaha
  • Eliot Bostar, Lincoln
  • Rita Sanders, Bellevue
  • Jen Day, Gretna

Three Returning State Senators:

  • Mike Flood, Norfolk. Previous legislative service: 2005-2013
  • Ray Aguilar, Grand Island. Previous legislative service: 1999-2009
  • Rich Pahls, Omaha. Previous legislative service: 2005-2013
