Omaha District Court Judge Gregory Schatz to Retire July 1, 2021

Omaha District Court Judge Gregory Schatz to Retire July 1, 2021

Judge of the Douglas County District Court, Gregory M. Schatz, is retiring effective July 1, 2021; he served as district judge in the 4th Judicial District (Omaha) for over 20 years.

In his announcement letter to the Governor, Schatz noted, “It has been a distinct privilege and honor to serve as a district court judge since my appointment in December 2000.”

Schatz served as judge for the Douglas County Adult Drug Court and on numerous judicial committees for the Nebraska District Judges Association.

After taking the bench in 2000, Schatz has been regularly retained in his judicial position by area voters, most recently in 2016.

The first step in replacing Schatz will be for the Judicial Resources Commission to call a meeting to determine whether, based on judicial workload statistics, his retirement creates a judicial vacancy on the district court for the 4th Judicial District.
