Annually, the Administrative Office of Courts and Probation is required to develop a report on data elements related to youth justice cases. Since 2014, the report has provided data on a statewide and district level, including the following elements:
- Petitions and Adjudications by Case Type: An overview of the types of cases filed and their resolutions.
- Juveniles Prosecuted in Adult Criminal Court: Data on the number of juveniles transferred to adult criminal court.
- Transfers Between Juvenile and Adult Criminal Court: Statistics on the movement of cases between juvenile and adult jurisdictions.
- Probation Activity: Information on probation practices and outcomes.
- Access to Counsel: Analysis of juvenile access to legal representation.
- Rates of Recidivism: Recidivism rates and related trends.
Brandon will discuss data sources for the report, define terms, highlight statewide data, and dissect the report for two districts. He will delve into the data sources used for the report, clearly define essential terms, and present significant statewide data findings. Additionally, he will provide a detailed analysis of the report's findings for two specific districts, offering a deeper understanding of the local dynamics within the broader context of youth justice.
