August 31, 1995-I completed my Family Mediation Training. In the spring of 1999 I became affiliated with the Douglas County Conciliation Court as a Family Mediator. I have been with the Court to the present time. As a result of my work with the Court, I have been instrumental in helping couples complete over 300 Parenting Plans with over 80% of the couples reaching an agreement.

I received my basic mediation certification while attending law school in 2006 and I completed my family law mediation training in 2013. I engage in the private practice of law with an emphasis in family law. I understand the benefit to mediation in a family law context and believe that it is the best way to resolve conflict.

Dan Bechtol serves as the Executive Director of the Concord Mediation Center (CMC), a non-profit agency serving people in Douglas and Sarpy counties who are experiencing conflict at home, at work, or in the community. He has extensive experience in mediation, facilitation and training, as well as policy and program development. Dan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Politics and Society (LPS) and Sociology from Drake University (IA) and earned his Master’s in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation from Abilene Christian University (TX). Prior to joining CMC, Dan established and operated a mediation service agency in southwest Iowa. Dan has held officer, board, and committee positions with the Iowa Supreme Court Family Law Reform Task force, Iowa 4th Judicial District Mediation Center, and the Iowa Association of Mediators.

I have been affiliated with The Mediation Center in Lincoln since about September 2015. I have co-mediated about 30 parenting plans, some to completion, as well as other divorce-related matters. I have attended every training offered by the Mediation Center that I can get to. I have an active law license which I maintain, but do not practice outside of mediation at this time. I also have coached law students learning mediation, and have participated in victim-offender juvenile justice conferencing and juvenile court pre-hearing facilitations. When I practiced law I handled mainly family law cases, and I have seen firsthand how having a parenting plan in place makes life better for the children of divorcing parents, helping to ensure that they have the support and care of both parents on a predictable schedule. I also think that a good workable parenting plan reduces parental conflict, which also benefits the children.

Shereen was raised by parents who experienced a great deal of conflict and divorce. She went to college and graduate school to study human communication and became a family mediator because she wanted to learn how to help families engage in conflict and separation more constructively. As a Parenting Act mediator, Shereen helps parents communicate about difficult issues and make decisions that are in the best interests of their children and themselves.

I've been a licensed attorney for nearly 6 years handling civil litigation including domestic relations and juvenile cases. I have ample experience establishing paternity, custody, child support, dividing assets and liabilities and all other facets of cases. As a law student, I completed an externship with The Mediation Center. I received my Basic Mediator Training during law school, and continued to be involved with small claims mediations as well as sitting in on Parenting Act mediations. During and after the externship, I've sat in on or participated in at least 10 full mediations, the majority of which were Parenting Act mediations. Debra has been an active mediator and facilitator for 19 years. Her experience is in Family mediation, including Specialized Alternative Dispute Resolution cases, Restorative Justice/Victim Youth Conferencing, Special Education, Child Welfare facilitation. Debra served as a Program Director for these and additional programs for 10 years while at Concord Mediation Center along with serving as the Center’s Interim Director for a period of time, prior to her current private practice. She continues affiliate with Concord and to mentor mediators/facilitators one on one, as well as coaching in trainings for Creighton University and Nebraska Mediation Association.

I have been mediating on the Douglas County 4-3 panel for approximately 9 years and have been mediating as a SADR mediator for just over a year. Most of my practice as an attorney and a mediator is in the area of family law, and I also serve as a Guardian Ad Litem in custody cases at the District Court level.

Timothy graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2016. Olivia grew up in southeastern Pennsylvania and later attended West Chester University, graduating with a degree in English. Olivia moved to Washington D.C. to attend law school at the David A. Clarke School of Law at the University of the District of Columbia. She graduated cum laude, earning her Juris Doctorate in May 2022. Joshua has been mediating since 2016. He has mediation training in the following areas: Basic Mediation, Family Mediation, Family Group Conferencing, and Restorative Justice. He is a private mediator in his law firm, Christolear Law Office. His mediation practice focuses on transactional law, including but not limited to disputes involving real estate, probate, business, and contracts. One of the reasons why I want to be a trained mediator is because of my position as a legal assistant. I have worked for an attorney specializing in family and juvenile law for the past 16 years. This attorney was a board member with the mediation center during its transitional years and during that time, I witnessed the beginning of what is now the Nebraska Mediation Center. Because it is our office protocol for the assistant assigned to the case to sit in on appointments, I am able to listen to the client and the attorney discuss the parenting plan, and then draft the plan with the attorney. This familiarity with parenting plans is very beneficial to my role as a mediator. I have enjoyed my training experience and participating in mediation sessions. It is very gratifying to see parents realize that they can establish their own parenting times with their children and make plans for holidays and birthdays in a less stressful environment. I look forward to helping many more families in this very meaningful process.

My training in mediation was a life-changing experience, opening new doors to healthier ways of resolving disputes, something I had been seeking since my parents’ contentious divorce nearly 25 years earlier. In mediation I seek to empower parties to find solutions that work for them, while maintaining their core values and personal dignity. Since 1992 I have worked with The Mediation Center (Lincoln) in mediating a variety of disputes, as well as facilitating important discussions within community organizations. I retired from Nebraska’s Office of Public Counsel/Ombudsman in 2021 after working with citizens to resolve issues with Nebraska State agencies through that office for 25 years. My retirement is devoted to public service; mediation, board leadership, and public engagement.

Stefanie S. Flodman specializes in the area of family law, with a focus on guardianship matters and general litigation. Stephanie Flynn received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Thomas Edison State College. Upon graduating from Thomas Edison, Stephanie attended the University of Nebraska College of Law. Stephanie received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for receiving the highest grade in her Criminal Law Clinic. Stephanie graduated law school in May 2010.

I have been a licensed attorney in the state of Nebraska for 12 years. My primary practice consists of Family Law. I am very familiar with the Nebraska Parenting Act requirements through my dissolution and modification actions in representing clients. For the past 10 years, I have had one of the most prominent child custody practices in central and western Nebraska. I have experienced nearly every turn a custody case can take during my practice.
