Supreme Court Justice William M. Connolly recently submitted a retirement notice to the Governor indicating his plan to retire August 1, 2016, after 24 years on the bench -- 2 years on the Nebraska Court of Appeals and 22 years on the Nebraska Supreme Court. “It has been a great honor to serve the citizens of this state as both a county attorney and a judge,” commented Connolly. After taking the Supreme Court bench in December 1994, Justice Connolly was retained in his position by area voters through several elections, most recently in 2010. Justice Connolly was appointed to the newly formed Nebraska Court of Appeals in 1992. Before his service on the bench, Connolly worked in the private practice of law in Hastings from 1973 to 1991 and as county attorney. “Bill Connolly has served the Nebraska Supreme Court faithfully for 24 years. He has been a seminal figure in shaping the Court’s recent jurisprudence,” said Chief Justice Heavican. "His keen legal mind and exceptional writing skills will be greatly missed.
