Multiple Nebraska Problem-Solving Court teams successfully completed training between May and September 2019. Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha placed first in the 2019 Judge Lyle Strom High School Mock Trial State Championship. The competition took place Monday and Tuesday at the Lancaster County Justice and Law Enforcement Center in Lincoln. The Douglas County District Court Adult Drug Court held its 107th graduation ceremony and celebration on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in the Legislative Chambers, 1819 Farnam Street, Omaha, Nebraska. There were 5 graduates receiving their dismissal/sealments. The average duration of this class’ stay was 28 months. Eight cases were dismissed. Ed Malk, the Lancaster County Veterans Treatment Court Lead Mentor received an award from The Berry Law Firm. Wednesday, November 20 at the Lancaster County District Court the Berry Law Firm presented Mr. Malk with a $500 check for his volunteer work with the court. Ed is the lead mentor of a team consisting of 10 volunteer veteran mentors. Andrew Strotman, Berry Law’s General Counsel and a USMC Veteran presented the award. The Central Nebraska Drug Court held its 33rd graduation ceremony on November 5, 2019, in Holdrege, Nebraska. Twenty-one participants were recognized for successfully completing the program. The Douglas County Veterans Treatment Court is featured in the Veteran’s Day issue of the Omaha Daily Record after reaching its third anniversary the previous Sunday. According to the article, there are the 15 graduates so far, plus 35 former service members currently participating. The veterans being helped by the court have all plead guilty to committing felonies, often spending time in jail or living on the streets, before taking responsibility and seeking help.
