Following the Supreme Court’s traditional argument session at the Creighton University School of Law on April 5, 2018, the judges packed their robes and headed to Millard North High School for one final argument session.

The Warner Legislative Chamber in the Nebraska State Capitol was standing room only for Supreme Court Justice Jonathan Papik’s investiture on May 7, 2018. Former partners from the Cline Williams Law Firm and residents of Stromsburg, Nebraska, packed the balconies while family, judges and staff filled the main floor.

Lincoln attorney Adam Prochaska spent many evenings playing LEGOs with his small children and often found himself continuing projects after his children had gone to bed. Before long Prochaska became a LEGO aficionado, creating bigger and better designs as a way to wind down after a long day at the office. 

He took an interest in creating the Nebraska Supreme Court out of LEGOs a couple of years ago. In November 2015 he visited the courtroom with a camera and started creating his structure in early 2016.

Lawrence E. Welch, Jr. was sworn-in as the Nebraska Court of Appeals 16th judge on March 28, 2018, in the Nebraska State Capitol. Representing the 5th Judicial District, Welch replaces Judge Everett O. Inbody who retired from the Court of Appeals in December 2017. Speaking directly to Inbody, Welch said, “You have extraordinarily large shoes to fill.  I cannot fill those shoes but I do intend to walk in those footsteps.”

The Nebraska Supreme Court announces the appointment of Wendy A. Wussow of Lincoln, Nebraska, as Clerk of the Nebraska Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, beginning April 2, 2018.

Wussow is currently serving as Agency Legal Counsel with the Nebraska State Patrol. She started her career as a private practice attorney in Kansas where she also served as a part-time municipal judge and later as assistant county attorney. Previously, she worked as a full-time prosecutor in both Kearney, Nebraska and in Mason City, Iowa. 

March 6: Judges John Samson and John Colborn

Nebraska District Court Judges John Samson of Blair and John Colborn of Lincoln have been invited to sit with the Nebraska Supreme Court on Tuesday, March 6th for today’s argument session.

Ninth grade students at Aurora High School were studying “To Kill a Mockingbird” when their English teacher, Natalie Staroska, contacted the Hamilton County District Court for a potential mock trial demonstration. District Court Judge Rachel Daugherty received the inquiry and knew that the Aurora court had the Bill of Exceptions and the original court documents from a relevant case heard in the courthouse in 1920: State v. Robert Meyer.

For over 30 years the justices of the Nebraska Supreme Court have traveled to each of Nebraska’s law schools for the purpose of making the Court’s business accessible to students on their campuses. Annual visits are made each spring to the University of Nebraska College of Law in Lincoln and Creighton University School of Law in Omaha.

A swearing-in ceremony for Kerry Sides as Clerk Magistrate of Lincoln County Court was held February 16, 2018, in the Lincoln County Courthouse in North Platte, Nebraska. Judges Kent Turnbull and Michael Piccolo presided over the ceremony.

Sides has previous experience with the courts having worked at the Lincoln County Court from 2007 to 2013. During her time in Lincoln County Court, she acted as Judge Turnbull's bailiff and served as the Assistant Clerk under former Clerk Magistrate Randy McCoy.
