Myndee Hagan Sworn-in as County Court Clerk Magistrate for Dawson and Gosper Counties
A swearing-in ceremony for Myndee Hagan as Clerk Magistrate of Dawson and Gosper Counties was held May 22, 2018, in the Dawson County Courthouse in Lexington, Nebraska. Judge Jeffrey Wightman presided over the ceremony.
Hagan began working with the county court system in 2016 as a records clerk for Gosper County Court. The majority of her professional career has been spent in the County and Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Courts.

Grand Island Senior High School Hosts Oral Arguments in Honor of Law Day
Supreme Court Justices travelled to Grand Island to hold Law Day events along with an argument session in the Senior High School auditorium on May 4, 2018.
The evening prior to arguments, the Court met with Grand Island, Kearney and Hastings area bar associations to thank lawyers for their community volunteerism and civic engagement during a Law Day reception co-hosted by the Nebraska State Bar Foundation. Following arguments, the Court participated in a luncheon with Grand Island High School Mock Trial Students, members of the school board and select guests.
Nebraska Supreme Court Took Court Argument to Millard North High School in April
Following the Supreme Court’s traditional argument session at the Creighton University School of Law on April 5, 2018, the judges packed their robes and headed to Millard North High School for one final argument session.
Investiture Ceremony for Justice Jonathan Papik Held in Early May
The Warner Legislative Chamber in the Nebraska State Capitol was standing room only for Supreme Court Justice Jonathan Papik’s investiture on May 7, 2018. Former partners from the Cline Williams Law Firm and residents of Stromsburg, Nebraska, packed the balconies while family, judges and staff filled the main floor.
Child’s Play Becomes an Adult Stress Reliever
Lincoln attorney Adam Prochaska spent many evenings playing LEGOs with his small children and often found himself continuing projects after his children had gone to bed. Before long Prochaska became a LEGO aficionado, creating bigger and better designs as a way to wind down after a long day at the office.
He took an interest in creating the Nebraska Supreme Court out of LEGOs a couple of years ago. In November 2015 he visited the courtroom with a camera and started creating his structure in early 2016.
Lawrence Welch Sworn-in as Judge of the Nebraska Court of Appeals
Lawrence E. Welch, Jr. was sworn-in as the Nebraska Court of Appeals 16th judge on March 28, 2018, in the Nebraska State Capitol. Representing the 5th Judicial District, Welch replaces Judge Everett O. Inbody who retired from the Court of Appeals in December 2017. Speaking directly to Inbody, Welch said, “You have extraordinarily large shoes to fill. I cannot fill those shoes but I do intend to walk in those footsteps.”

Wendy Wussow to Serve as Nebraska’s Appellate Level Clerk of Court
The Nebraska Supreme Court announces the appointment of Wendy A. Wussow of Lincoln, Nebraska, as Clerk of the Nebraska Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, beginning April 2, 2018.
Wussow is currently serving as Agency Legal Counsel with the Nebraska State Patrol. She started her career as a private practice attorney in Kansas where she also served as a part-time municipal judge and later as assistant county attorney. Previously, she worked as a full-time prosecutor in both Kearney, Nebraska and in Mason City, Iowa.

Nebraska Case Converted to Mock Trial - Reenacted in Aurora
Ninth grade students at Aurora High School were studying “To Kill a Mockingbird” when their English teacher, Natalie Staroska, contacted the Hamilton County District Court for a potential mock trial demonstration. District Court Judge Rachel Daugherty received the inquiry and knew that the Aurora court had the Bill of Exceptions and the original court documents from a relevant case heard in the courthouse in 1920: State v. Robert Meyer.
