Cedar County Courthouse First on List for Courtroom Technology Upgrade

Staff members from Cedar County Court gathered around newly installed audio-visual equipment in the courtroom to learn how to operate the state-of-the-art technology, marking the Judicial Branch’s first installation of the new courtroom audio-visual technology.

“We were interested in the project and the capabilities it allows the Court to use now and into the future,” said Cedar County Clerk of District Court Janet Wiechelman.

State Supreme Court to Hear Arguments at Nebraska City High School November 2

Supreme Court Justices will hold court arguments in the theatre of the Nebraska City High School on November 2, 2022.  The court session comes at the invitation of High School Principal Brian Hoover.

“Having the Supreme Court come and present arguments is a great opportunity for our students -- to be able to listen to these experts and observe the process is the exact kind of educational experience we want at Nebraska City Public Schools,” noted Hoover on the Court's visit.

Distinguished Judge Awards Presented to Randin Roland and Rick Schreiner

Judge Rick Schreiner, Gage County District Court, and Judge Randin Roland, Cheyenne County Court, were presented with the Supreme Court’s highest honor on October 12, 2022, during the annual judges’ conference.

Justice William Cassel presented the ‘Improvement of the Judicial System Award’ to Roland and the ‘Service to the Community Award’ to Schreiner on behalf of the Chief Justice. The awards, given annually, recognizes members of the judiciary for meritorious projects and exemplary accomplishments beyond their day-to-day duties as a judge.

Everyday Heroes: Fender Honored

Kim Fender, Human Resources Coordinator in District 4A/4J, supports all aspects of local recruiting, hiring, retention, plus many other duties. She is a huge asset to both Districts - by attending job fairs and educating college students, as well as engaging with the community to cultivate a new workforce. Fender has also supported each district in numerous initiatives, such as HOPE (Humanity, Optimism, Perspective, and Empathy) training alongside juvenile and adult reform.

Justice and Behavioral Health Conference Attracts Practitioners from Across State

Supporters of the Nebraska Judicial System providing behavioral health services and legal support gathered to hear from national experts and area speakers on topics ranging from problem-solving courts to trauma services to adolescent behavior.

“In the Nebraska Justice and Behavioral Health systems, we share a collective goal of promoting constructive change through rehabilitation, collaboration, and partnership to enhance safe communities,” noted Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Funke.

Everyday Heroes: Jeanette Chun Honored

In her role as an Administrative Assistant to the Nebraska Supreme Court Information Technology Division, Jeanette Chun regularly demonstrates the highest standards for the position. She is quick to respond to requests, even if the request is last minute.  She is innovative in her planning and maximizes efficiency on every project. Her general knowledge of software and computers, her willingness to teach others, and her kind disposition make her an asset to the Judicial Branch.

Everyday Heroes: Theresa Emmert Honored

Juvenile Court Administrator Theresa Emmert strives to make Lancaster County Juvenile Court a model of efficiency. Emmert created a “new attorney” orientation, elaborating the various issues they may face and nuances involved. Additionally, she’s trained to substitute in any position courts require for last-minute coverage so that court continues to run efficiently. Her responsible eye for accounting enabled the court to return thousands to Lancaster County. Emmert also represents on numerous committees, including in the local “Through the Eyes of a Child” team.
